February 12, 2014

Today saw the launch of Britain’s first ever ‘green mobile lighting tower’ named the SMC Solar-2.

The SMC Solar-2 does is a result of three years R&D and investment by West Midlands based manufacturer Morris Site Machinery and features 4 x high power DC/DC LED Floods lights, designed and manufactured in the UK by Gemma Lighting LTD.

The SMC Solar-2 provides 100% fuel saving with zero noise, zero Co2 emissions and offers up to 50 hours on a single charge and up to 100 when supplemented with solar power.

With both battery and mains supply provision it offers flexible options for all applications on site whilst its ultra silent operation makes this a suitable tower for use on projects where noise must be kept to a minimum. For versatility in terms of petrochemical and tunnel work, the tower can be battery powered and used without the solar panels.

Phil Winnington, Commercial Director, Morris Site Machinery said: “Over the next few years we are anticipating a much higher demand for eco-friendly products and solutions as businesses strive to have a positive impact on the environment and community. Often many companies think it’s a choice between being green and making money, however in the last few years the development of eco and sustainable products has improved and can now deliver commercial costs savings and impact on the bottom line.

Craig Manuel, Managing Director, Gemma Lighting said ‘It has been a real pleasure to work with Morris Site Machinery on this market leading solar lighting tower. Our DC/DC LED flood lights are proven technology having been installed around the world for over 10 years, providing excellent illumination and uniformity. We wish Phil and the team at Morris Site Machinery continued success with this project.
